Work Package Two
To determine currently used methods of implementation of research evidence into practice in different European settings
We will investigate:
- What methodologies for implementing evidence for stroke care into practice are currently used in the participating European countries
- Different ways of cascading evidence into practice in primary care (e.g. secondary stroke prevention, assessment of stroke comorbidities after discharge, rehabilitation after discharge), hospital care (e.g. implementation of clinical guidelines in the areas of diagnosis, acute management and early assessment for rehabilitation), and specialized care settings (e.g. establishment of Stroke Units, thrombolytic therapy) will be evaluated
- We will also investigate which models for improving the quality of evidence-based care are currently implemented in the participating European countries (e.g. national audits, benchmarking between health care providers, learning cycles, financial incentives)
We will use a survey method to identify and to document methods for implementation currently used at the national levels, for which a standardised questionnaire will be developed in this WP, focusing on the organisational (meso) and patient and carer (micro) levels.
The questionnaire development will be based on standard methods for describing structures and process of care developed in the previous Fifth Framework Programme (EROS).
For defining the different topics of the questionnaire we need to understand the latest theories and scores for implementation. Thus, a systematic review (performed in WP3) will guide identification of topics to be addressed by the questionnaire.
